Only 3,2,1 sleeps to go! Here are some important final reminders:
Be at school by 8:30 on Monday.
We will return between 2:30 and 3:00 on Thursday.
Make sure clothing is labelled, especially jackets, hats, tops ... anything that could be taken off and left lying around.
All children need to bring plates, cutlery and a tea-towel.
If the weather is wet, activities will still go ahead. Have plenty of warm light layers and a waterproof coat / jacket.
We are still short of some food donations, especially spreads (Year 7 boys). Please have these handy to put in boxes on Monday. Any home baking will be gladly received on Monday.

Message from the PTA
A huge big thank you to all the Year 7 & 8 students who helped at the fair. We couldn't have done it without you; you helped to make the fair such a success. A big thank to all of you who performed on stage as well. It was great to show what talented students the school has and you did so well.

Week 8 Update
Yesterday the Year 7 & 8 staff visited Hanmer for camp planning purposes and a bit of a soak in the hot pools. It was a gorgeous day and we got very excited about our camp which is now only two weeks away. If your Health Profile and Contact form is not yet back at school, please fill this in and return it ASAP. Students are putting in bunk room requests and we have a special Camp Hui for students this Tuesday. Thanks to those people who have sent in food donations already.
Those children who offered to help out at the school fair should have brought home a notice on Friday. Please complete and return the reply slip ASAP.
Learning Conferences are coming up next week on Tuesday March 27 and Wednesday 28. If you have not yet booked a learning conference for your child, please do so on School Links http://www.school-links.org.nz or call the office. This is a fabulous opportunity for your child to share their learning and next steps with you; we expect to have conferences with every child and their parent(s).
We have seen some fabulous home learning on 'Begin with the end in mind'; it was fascinating reading about each child's career plans. The final home learning assignment for the term has been posted on this blog.
Our softball sessions with Kendra have finished, but enthusiasm for softball is running hot. We will be holding some inter-class challenges over the next two weeks. Who will win Scobby?

Duathlon
Due to the tight time schedule and the upcoming fair, we have decided to reschedule the duathlon until later this year. At that stage more time can be given to training and we hope to have lots of people keen to enter.

Week 7 Update
The countdown to camp is on; less than three weeks to go. You should have a gear list and parent helpers have been confirmed. On Wednesday this week a notice will come home with more details and a health form for you to complete and return to school by Wednesday March 21st.
Our Year 5 - 8 Duathlon (run, bike, run) is scheduled for next Thursday, March 22nd between interval and lunch. Entry forms out later this week. This is a school only event, there is no zone event. We would like to encourage as many children as possible to take part. The Duathlon will be our first 'Scoobie' competition of the year, points will be awarded for participation.
We have started a Tuesday afternoon buddy programme with Room 20 students and the Year 7 & 8 students. The aim of this programme is for our students to walk in someone else's shoes and develop empathy and awareness, as well as to get to know each other better. Each week six Year 7 & 8 students will be buddied up with six Room 20 students for an afternoon of art.
Our school fair is a week and a half away. Today a number of students put their names down to help out at the fair, in a range of capacities. If your child's help is required a notice with details will be coming home on Thursday.
Basketball trials are on Monday at lunchtime. There is still time before the end of this week to sign up.

Week 6 Update
Wow, we are now half way through term 1. Update pages this week include Photo Gallery and Home Learning.
Thanks to those who have offered to help on camp. We were flooded with more offers than we had spaces. Bruce Rodger will be contacting parents who have offered.
We are looking for a few parents to help with putting together some learning resources for our team. If you have a couple of hours to spare and would like to help out, please let me know. nicky.dunlop@beckenham.school.nz
